I voted on paper! (in CollinCo TX)
Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 05:19:56 AM PDT
Last week I received the newsletter from the county Democrats about how all polling stations would have a supply of paper ballots. This is in Collin County, TX.
Here's my recap.
Continuing fake outrage of Rathergate? +poll
Wed Nov 02, 2005 at 07:36:26 PM PDT
I just had the misfortune of listening to Joe Scarborough go on and on about how Dan Rather should have resigned. The only good argument I heard is that if all Rather's supporting cast had to resign, why not Rather himself.
On Tone and Profanity (+poll)
Sat Oct 01, 2005 at 02:13:09 PM PDT
OK. I imagine most everyone is tired of talking about Obama's recent post. No? You're not? I simply want to talk about the use of profanity. I'm not saying we should censor ourselves, but I do sometimes wonder if we shoot ourselves in the foot when we resort to choosing words that do nothing but help us vent off some steam.
Profanity and tone go hand in hand, and I think Obama's main point is to watch our tone.
Demand Congress sacrifice pork for Katrina aid
Tue Aug 30, 2005 at 11:12:21 PM PDT
Everyone knows the recent Transportation bill is
full of pork. Nobody seems to even try to deny it.
Citizens Against Government Waste, a watchdog group, estimates that the transportation bill funded $24 billion of special projects, which means over 8 percent of that budget went to pork.
In light of the devastation that Katrina has brought upon New Orleans and the surrounding cities, it only seems appropriate for the other states of the union to assign their 'pork' money to help with the rebuilding effort.
Slashdot : Bush declines to answer
Wed Oct 13, 2004 at 10:06:59 PM PDT
Once again, our infallible (mis)leader can't admit to ever making mistakes or changing his mind.
From Slashdot:
PERSONAL:
When is it appropriate for a leader to change their opinion? Both sides have been accused of flip-flopping on important issues - President Bush on establishing the Dept. of Homeland Security and steel tariffs, Senator Kerry on the Iraq war. But changing opinion due to thoughtful reconsideration ought not to be derided as flip-flopping. Tell us about a time when you had an honest change of opinion on a topic of national importance.

Scott Peterson trial ends on election day?
Tue Oct 12, 2004 at 10:54:37 AM PDT
Good grief. This story already takes up too much time on cable news. I had hoped it would be finished before the election so that more time is spent on things that actually matter to the vast majority of Americans. Everytime the news talks about this case, they lose time they could be talking about the direction our country is headed (Iraq, economy, healthcare, etc).
Judge Delays Scott Peterson Trial
The judge told jurors closing arguments should be presented Nov. 1 and 2, and that the case should go to jurors Nov. 3.
Vote for Cheney at CNN now!
Mon Oct 04, 2004 at 04:59:48 PM PDT
They are asking who we expect to win the VP debate. Right now Edwards is beating Cheney 2 to 1.
I think this is one poll we want to lose. I fully expect Cheney to squirt some "W" ketchup on Edwards and bite his head off and have it for dinner.
And sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't see it in a quick scan of diary titles.
Democracy Hypocracy w/Poll
Mon Sep 13, 2004 at 01:01:21 PM PDT
Alright, so the assault weapons ban has lapsed because Republicans in Congress do not agree with it. At the same time, there are polls that show a great majority across the nation think the ban should be renewed.
Even 80% of Texans (those crazy gun lovers) think it should be renewed!
Why is this hypocritical? Because weeks ago during the Federal Marriage Amendment debate, we heard from Republicans about how we should LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE! Yet the polls show that many, MANY more people agree with the assault weapons ban than agreed with the gay marriage ban. After all, you could get killed by one of these guns, but how will the gay couple down the street affect you?

ORANGE ALERT!

ORANGE ALERT
CNN has as breaking news :
Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge to raise terror threat level in Washington to high (orange), official tells CNN.
I think we should remember this:
Study: Fear shapes voters' views
President George W. Bush may be tapping into solid human psychology when he invokes the September 11 attacks while campaigning for the next election, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.
...
"I think this should concern anybody," Solomon said. "If I was speaking lightly, I would say that people in their, quote, right minds, unquote, don't care much for President Bush and his policies in Iraq."

France Holds First Gay Wedding, Despite Govt. Threat
By Rebecca Harrison
BEGLES, France (Reuters) - Two men exchanged marriage vows on Saturday in France's first gay wedding, hailed by supporters as a victory for human rights but swiftly denounced by the government as illegal.
The couple, one dressed in white and one in black, swapped rings, hugs and kisses at a ceremony in the town hall of Begles in southwestern France which prompted a rally of support by drag queens and a protest by conservatives.
Mayor Noel Mamere, who is leading an assault on traditional family values, defied Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin to wed the two men. Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin announced the mayor would face legal action.
Dems need to tie deficit to security
Fri Jan 30, 2004 at 01:00:08 AM PDT
Ross Perot ran a campaign in 1992/1996 mostly on the back of attacking the huge deficits that we would be passing on to future generations. I think it is important that the Democrats speak up on this issue. However, how do you make this issue important when the so-called "war on terror" is always the top headline?
My suggestion is for the Democrats to come out for a "war on the deficit". We need to somehow make the point that having such huge debts will end up making us less secure in the long run. How can we afford to protect ourselves in the future if future generations are forced to repay these huge debts?
I'm not for scare tactics, but how else can you get people to care?
